Guns of Perdition (The Armageddon Showdown Book 1) – A Review.

In one word – WOW.

So, here’s a book review. I don’t think I’ve ever done one of these, although maybe I should more often. Because sometimes I come across books that simply rock.

And this book has pretty much everything that rocks. Gunslingers, Indians, Shape Shifters, Demons, Booger Monsters, and Poker Hands.

Did I mention Biblical Prophesy as the book name implies? Should have… because the FOUR HORSEMEN of the APOCALYPSE are in this book! And they carry guns!

As for characters – First off, we’ve got Grace, the anti-heroine. She carries a pair of guns named Justice and Mercy, and isn’t afraid to put a bunch of holes in things that get in her way. She’s callous, hardened, and chasing after the Darksome Gunman who murdered her parents, leaves a stack of bodies everywhere he goes, and is more than he seems. Then we got Jessie. The poor, shy, naive, innocent kid that gets picked up at the beginning like a stray puppy and attempts to restore some humanity to Grace. The story is told from his point of view.

The closest thing this book reminds me of is the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, which I personally couldn’t read. Because the first time I ran into lobster people I thought it was so freaking weird that I put it down and never picked it back up. And honestly, Mr. Stephen “Aww screw it, it was ALIENS ALL ALONG!” King doesn’t do it for me anyways.

But Guns of Perdition – Yup. It rocked my eyeballs.

The plot twists are fantastic, and the final twist, oh man… The book was good, real good. But once you hit that final twist, it solidifies the book as one of my favorites. (Now I’m going to re-read it to apply what I know to see the trail of breadcrumbs I missed all along.)

The only con that I came across, is the lingo. The first couple of chapters tripped me up trying to adjust to it. But the story was good enough that I pressed on and I’m glad I did. Because it didn’t take to long to get used to the way the characters spoke and enjoyed the rest of the book.

If you need something to read, and love westerns and horror, I highly recommend Guns of Perdition.
